Past and Present:

1959 - The Faculty of Physics-Chemistry was founded within the 3-Year Teacher Training Institute
1966 - The Faculty of Chemistry, including the Department of Physics-Chemistry, was founded upon the establishment of the University of Craiova
1971 –a new Department of Physics within the Faculty was founded
1974 - The Department of Physics belonged to the Faculty of Natural Sciences. In 1990 the faculty changed its name to the Faculty of Sciences;
1999 - The Faculty of Physics was set up as a new distinct academic unit.

International academic cooperation programmes:

All academic programmes have focused on teaching-related activities, participation in student and teaching staff mobility programmes, cooperation in the Distance Learning programme with universities abroad, aiming at international diploma recognition, books and periodicals exchange programmes with institutes in Switzerland, Germany, Italy and U.S.A., cooperation with Euratom agencies in France and Belgium, and participation in Erasmus mobility programmes.
