THE ACADEMIC SYSTEM
The
academic year starts on October, 1st and finishes at the end of
June. It is divided into 2 semesters, each containing 14 weeks of
teaching activities and is followed by a session of examinations.
There is also an extra session in September, when the students who
have failed in the former session have another chance to pass their
exams. In accordance with the profile, certain faculties also have
practice periods at the end of each semester, immediately after the
conclusion of the teaching activities.
The evaluation of students' knowledge is done similarly in
writing and/or orally in the two sessions of examinations; sometimes
the evaluation can be associated with periodical testing during the
semester, projects, written papers or practice evaluation.
The grading system is based on a scale from 1 to 10, on which 10 is
the highest and 5 is the minimal grade to pass an exam. The ECTS
equivalence is the following:
Romanian
System |
Equivalence
ECTS |
Definition |
10 |
A |
excellent |
9 |
B |
very good |
7 - 8 |
C |
good |
6 |
D |
satisfactory |
5 |
E |
adequate |
4 |
FX |
fail |
1 - 3 |
F |
fail |
In certain instances
theoretical and practical knowledge are evaluated separately, a
minimal limit being settled for the student to pass either
component. Thus, if the student does not get the minimal grade in
one of the components he/she will not pass the exam, even if the
average value of the two separate grades is higher than 5.
