Craiova
is situated at the crossroads of the main communication ways in
Romania, both railways and roads. The airport, not far from city,
does not operate international flights.
Traveling by plane
The nearest international airports to Craiova are those from
Bucharest and Timisoara. Bucharest is 230 km from Craiova on the
road and 210 on the railroad. Traveling by car or train it may take
about 3 hours. The 330 km from Timisoara to Craiova (both on the
railroad and on the road) can be covered in 6h by train and in 5 by
car.
Traveling by train
Craiova is situated on the main railroad number 9 that crosses
Romania from East to West, connecting Bucharest to Timisoara.
Craiova can be reached easily from most of the European countries by
through trains from Paris, Munich, Budapest, Thessaloniki etc. The
railway station is at about 20 minutes walk from/to the University.
If you do not want to walk, take a bus or a taxi. Bus fare is about
0.20 Euros and the taxi fare - about 0.5 Euros.
Traveling by car
Craiova is situated at the crossroads of the European routes E70, E
79, E 574. The main entry points are: Giurgiu and Calafat at the
frontier with Bulgaria, Drobeta Turnu Severin and Jimbolia at the
frontier with the former Yugoslavia, Nadlac and Bors at the frontier
with Hungary.
Visas
EU citizens do not need a visa to enter Romania. If they intend to
stay more than three months, they need a permit which will be issued
by the local police. The formalities organized to get this permit
will be explained upon arrival. |
