I. General stipulations
1. These regulations refer to the conditions of academic recognition
for periods of study carried out by students of the University of
Craiova in universities abroad. The periods taken into account are
short-termed stages performed on the basis of pre-existing
agreements, during which the students continue to be enrolled with
the University of Craiova for the whole duration of the mobility.
2. Upon the students' return, academic recognition of the respective
period of study should give them the possibility not only to resume
their studies but also to integrate the results obtained in the host
university, in accordance with the established agreements and
contracts.
3. The stipulations of these regulations apply to all student
mobilities performed in the above mentioned conditions, whether they
are carried out as part of an international cooperation programme in
which the University of Craiova participates, or in virtue of
bilateral agreements.
II. Competence
4. A deputy dean is assigned departmental ECTS coordinator by the
dean of each faculty. He will represent the competent authority at
faculty level for establishing the individual study contracts and
academic recognition.
5. Contracting and recognition procedures must not be the
responsibility of Faculty Councils or specially constituted
committees, and under no circumstances should they involve the
professors in ordinary of the respective academic disciplines.
6. At the level of the University, the competent authority is the
deputy dean in charge with
teaching issues. Upon request of the persons involved, he will
analyze and decide on the validation, invalidation or modification
of a decision made by the departmental ECTS co-ordinator.
III. The study programme
7. Before the beginning of the mobility, the student will make/ sign
a contract of study specifying in detail the contents and duration
of the programme he will have to carry out. This is a printed
contract, drawn between the student, the University of Craiova and
the host university.
8. The study programme will be established in accordance with ECTS
procedures. The courses or course packages the student will include
should, upon successful completion, ensure the student a number of
credits equal to the one required in the curriculum of the mother
faculty for the period of his/her mobility.
9. The content of the study programme will de decided on after
analyzing the academic disciplines offered by the host university
with respect to substance, adequacy and usefulness of the knowledge
transmitted and taking into account the professional standard
requirements for the specialization taken by the student at the
University of Craiova. The study contract may include disciplines
offered by different specializations or years of study, when they
are considered relevant.
10. There doesn't have to be a strict correspondence between the
study programme agreed upon and the provisions of the curriculum of
the mother faculty. It is recommended to include, to the extent
possible, disciplines that are equivalent to as many as possible of
the fundamental disciplines the student is supposed to take during
the respective period at the University of Craiova.
11. The Romanian language, literature, history or geography related
disciplines cannot be substituted by other subjects because there
are no corresponding disciplines abroad. For these disciplines the
contract will include examinations that are to be taken at the
mother faculty, after the completion of the mobility, and the total
number of credits considered will be reduced correspondingly.
IV. Recognition procedure
12. Applying for academic recognition is done on the basis of the
existing contracts and agreements, as well as documents attesting
the student's professional results. The application will be
addressed to the departmental ECTS coordinator.
13. The University of Craiova will grant the students academic
recognition for their studies at the host university as a completely
recognized part of the curriculum for their specialization. Such
recognition can be denied only if the student does not fulfil the
conditions of his/her contract or has not met the requirements for
promotion at the host university.
14. Academic recognition implies both the duration and content of
the respective period of study. A period of study carried out in
another university will replace, by academic recognition, a period
of study of the same length and amount of work (measured in credits)
that the student would have carried out at his/her mother faculty.
15. A student's successful completion of his study programme must
result in academic recognition of his professional results (credits,
grades, passed disciplines). The student's professional results
obtained during the recognized period, as well as information
regarding the host institution and the period of time spent there,
will be included in the student's record of service.
16. If a student fails to fulfil his study programme, he may have to
resume his/her entire normal programme at the mother faculty or to
sit for special compensatory examinations.
a) If the number of credits obtained is less than ½ of the total
number mentioned in the contract, the respective period of time
cannot benefit from academic recognition and the evaluation of the
student's knowledge will be done for all the subjects in his/her
curriculum.
b) If the number of credits obtained is at least ½ but less than the
total number established by the contract, the student will be
granted academic recognition for the subjects in which he/she has
passed and the ECTS coordinator will decide which subjects the
student has to be evaluated for so that he might obtain the required
number of credits.
17. The evaluation required in conformity with 11) and 16) above
will be carried out during special exam sessions scheduled after the
completion of the mobility and, if necessary, during the autumn
session.
V. Final and transitory dispositions
18. By 1 February 2002, the deans will communicate to the Rector's
Office, to the attention of the pro-rector in charge with teaching
issues, the names of the appointed ECTS coordinators.
19. The reports of the students whose study stages took place during
the academic year 2001-2002, having been completed before these
regulations were adopted, will be analyzed by the pro-rector in
charge with teaching issues.
20. The departmental ECTS coordinators will contact the students who
were already abroad on such mobility grants at the time when tese
regulations were adopted and will take all the necessary steps for
the requirements of academic recognition to be fufilled.
21. Taking incoming students for short-term study stages implies
ad-hoc recognition of previously undertaken studies. Departmental
ECTS coordinators will cooperate with mother universities in drawing
the study contracts, will supervise their being carried out and
facilitate the release of study documents. The Rector's
International Cooperation Office will have the responsibility of
analyzing students' files and preparing matriculation.
