Art.9 The University of Craiova organizes and structures the long
term full time educational program as follows:
- 8 semesters for the faculties that offer courses in the
humanities, economics and exact sciences.
- 10 semesters for the faculties that offer courses in the technical
and agricultural domains.
Semesters 1-4 make the 1st cycle of studies, semesters 5-8, and
5-10, respectively, make the 2nd cycle of studies.
Art.10.The assessment of students is made throughout the academic
year during the seminars, tutorials, under the form of projects,
formal evaluations and end of semester evaluations which are held
during the exam sessions periods established according to the
structure of the academic year.
a) there are 3 exam sessions established according to the structure
of the academic year for the full time, extramural, or distance
learning students.
Art.11.To each course in the curriculum that concludes with a grade
(evaluation) a number of credits is allotted in accordance with the
time allotted for the study.
Art.12. The student who envisages a teaching career, needs,
according to the Law of Education, to attend the activities
(seminars, tutorials, pedagogical practice) organized by the
Department for teachers training and pass the exams satisfactorily.
The attendance and satisfactory examination pass is attested by a
certificate that proves the student’s qualification to be a teacher.
Art.13.The quantity and quality of the student’s knowledge required
to pass an exam are established through the syllabus of each
course/subject taught.
a) Every faculty board settles the day and hour of each examination,
for all forms of learning, to the students' suggestion and with the
agreement of the respective teacher.
The examinations are scheduled for each group of students and are
announced to the students at least one month in advance.
b) the schedule of the examinations for the autumn session is made
before the summer session ends and is displayed on the bulletin
board.
c) The examining board consists of the teacher who taught the
course/subject, assisted by the teacher who taught the seminars or
tutorials or some other teacher who teaches the same specialty.
Art.14. All formal examinations will be held one week before the
exam session begins.
Art.15.The forms of examination –written, multiple choice, oral,
oral and written – are established for each course/subject by
October 15 and are displayed on the bulletin board.
Art.16.The grading of the students’ answers during all forms of
evaluation is based on a scale from 10 to 1, using only whole
numbers. The minimal grade for a pass is 5. In some special cases,
defined by specific regulations, formal examinations can be graded
with a pass or fail.
a) if several examinations (written, oral, laboratory sessions) are
held for one subject only, the examiner will establish one grade
(whole number) by adding all grades obtained by the student.
b) In case the requirements are that the presentation of a project
should be a condition for going in for an examination, the grade for
the project is not included in the final grade but is written
separately in the roll and in the students’ card.
Art.17.The rolls filled in and signed by the examiners will be
handed in to the secretariate, the day after the examination takes
place.
The student who is not present at the examination is marked as
absent in the roll.
Art.18.By April 14 each year, all faculty boards and departments
will have displayed the list of optional courses offered for each
year of study in the coming academic year. The student must choose
his optional courses by May 15.
The student cannot change his foreign language choice unless he has
done it during the first semester in the first year.
Art.19. The practical training in a domain is obligatory for the
student whose specialty requires such an activity. The student’s
evaluation is under the form of an examination that takes place
where the practical training unfolds and is run by a board of
examiners (the supervisor of the practical training, who is a
teacher, and the monitor of the practical training, who is a
specialist working in the respective institution.
a) The pedagogical practice training will take place according to
the syllabi and methodology provided by the Department for teachers
training.
Art.20.Both compulsory and optional courses have a number of credits
so that, for full time training, the sum of the credits in one
academic year should be 30.
The credit is a conventional measure unit for the volume of the
student’s work. A credit comprises all forms of activity: lecture,
seminar, laboratory, examination, practical training, individual
study, project work. The number of credits is allotted in compact
package to a subject according to its relative importance ( the
volume of work required from the student) during a semester.
a) the student gets the whole number of credits allotted to a
subject if he passes the examination at that subject.
b) For extramural and distance learning the number of credits for
each discipline is equal to the number of credits for full-time
learning.
c) The graduation exam has a separate number of 30 credits.
d) The pedagogical subjects offered by the Department for teachers
training have a separate number of 30 credits.
e) The system of allotting the number of credits to subjects is
co-ordinated at the level of University by a vice-rector and at the
level of each faculty, college or department by a vice-dean or
research secretary. At the level of faculties other persons (heads
of departments, members of the faculty board) can be appointed to
supervise this system per year of study, specialties, students
groups and inform the students about it. All co-ordinators
periodically write reports and make suggestions to improve the
system of credits and its application.
The number of credits allotted to a subject cannot be divided per
forms of activities.
Art.21. To pass an examination implicitly means to be given the
package of credits allotted to that subject. The package of credits
cannot be divided.
a) credits can gather in modules to form an extra specialty or
qualification.
b) Credits can be transferred among the structures of different
specialties or domains (the structural transfer).
c) Credits can be transferred from one educational institution to
another, per subjects, groups of subjects or compact study periods
(the horizontal transfer).
The faculty board decides the criteria for the credits transfer and
their number. The transfer of credits is made at the student’s
request and when the situation of the credits is totally clear and
official. The dean of the faculty approves the transfer of credits.
d) The credits can be obtained in advance and can be referred to the
next semesters (the mobility of credits). Obtaining credits in
advance and referring them to later semesters can be done at the
student’s request and is approved by the faculty board.
e) The obtained credits are recognized throughout the study period
and their recognition is not altered by the modifications in the
curriculum or syllabus (the permanence of credits).
f) According to the number of credits a student can obtain at the
end of an academic year he can be declared promoted, enrolled in the
following year of study without having promoted the previous year
(sliding), re-enrolled in a year of study or expelled.
g) A student can be declared promoted if he has gathered at least 60
credits from all compulsory, optional and elective subjects in his
curriculum. His credits which should include all obligatory and
optional subjects in that year curriculum.
h) A student can be enrolled in the next year of study even if he is
not declared promoted but he has gathered a minimal number of
credits from all the credits of the compulsory, optional and
elective subjects in the curricula of the year/years of study he has
attended classes, according to criteria specific to every faculty.
i) To participate in an examination for a subject which does not
belong to the current year of study but a previous year is admitted
only under conditions established by the faculty board.
j) A student can be re-enrolled in a year of study if he gathered a
number of credits inferior to the minimal number of credits
mentioned at point a) but at least 10 from the credits of the
compulsory and optional subjects in the curriculum of the year of
study he has attended classes. A student can be re-enrolled only
once in the same year of study throughout his study period.
k) A student’s re-enrollment in a year of study as well as his
future learning programme are regulated by indications established
by the faculty board.
l) A student can be expelled if he gathered less than 10 credits
from all the credits for the compulsory, optional and elective
subjects in his curriculum.
m) A student who was expelled can be re-enrolled on condition he
pays for the remaining studies (tax-based learning). All the credits
he has gathered so far are accepted. The re-enrollment can be done
at the beginning of an academic year, at the choice of the student,
at his request and with the agreement of the faculty board.
n) A student who is in the last year of study but has not been
declared promoted in the previous years of study can be given an
extension for his studies. The extension is unlimited, and the
student’s learning programme will be settled by the faculty board.
The credits gathered previously are accepted entirely and his
participation in the examinations will be tax-based. The amount of
the tax and the conditions of his participation in the examinations
will be established by the faculty board.
In case the curricula change the students who are in the position
described above, the coordinator of the domain will suggest the
curriculum for the student.
Art.22 The student can participate in the examination only twice
tax-freely, for each subject.
In case the student is not declared promoted after his second
participation in the examination he can apply for another
re-examination according to Art.58 in the Law of Education (
tax-based)
For the extramural or distance learning students, who have an extra
year of study, the number of credits per year will be of 48, so
that, at the end of their studies they have the same number of
credits with the full-time students.
Art.23.The dean can approve, at the student’s request, a
re-examination for the student to improve his grade. This can be
done for at least 3 subjects in one year of study and it is only the
student who has been declared promoted to all the other examinations
in his current curriculum that can be granted this approval. There
is no grade improving re-examination for subjects taught in previous
years. A grade improving re-re-examination for the same subject is
not permitted.
Grade improving re-examinations are settled to take place after the
regular exam sessions, according to the educational program but at
least 5 days before the beginning of the new academic year. They
will take place after the student has paid the taxes established by
the University Senate. The teacher who has taught the respective
subject will be part of the board of examiners. The grade is
modified only if it is higher than the previous one.
Art.24. The full-time, extramural and distance learning student is
declared promoted after the autumn session, at least 3 days before
the new academic year starts.
Art.25.The student who tries to cheat in his examination will be
expelled through a decision signed by the rector, at the suggestion
of the faculty board.
Art.26.The student who studies at foreign universities, with the
permit of the dean and the rector, is recognized the learning
activities and examinations held there, on condition he presents
genuine documents issued by the respective universities.
The examinations and years of study are recognized by the Romanian
faculties, being approved by faculty boards, according to the
agreements the faculty has with the respective institutions.
Art.27.The student in the last year of study is declared promoted
one week before the graduation examination.
The student who, at the end of his years of study, has a maximal
number of 5 failed exams in the last 4 semesters, can apply for an
extension of study with 1-2 semesters, according to Art.58 in the
Law of Education (tax-based), and the Regulations established by the
University Senate.
The faculty board can approve the extension of tax-free learning for
one year, at the most, in one of the following situations:
a) Diseases certified by medical documents confirmed by the Students
Dispensary.
b) The participation of high performance sportsmen in special
programs of training or national and international competitions.
c) Maternity leaves ( 2 years, exceptionally).
Art.28. After graduating the 2nd cycle of learning the student can
participate in a Master’s Degree or Postgraduate Studies (covering
2-4 semesters) in order to get an extra qualification. Faculty
boards can establish their own regulations concerning this last
article.
